APPLE PIE CUTS
Filling:

6 apples
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt

Crust:

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup butter (softened)
2 eggs
Milk (less than 2/3 cup)
1 cup Corn Flakes

Frosting:

powdered sugar
water

Apple Filling: Peel and slice apples. Add sugar, cinnamon and salt. Mix and let stand while making crust.

Crust: Mix flour, sugar, salt, butter and mix like pie crust. Separate eggs whites from egg yolks. Beat yolks in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup. Mix into crust and roll 1/2 of dough on floured surface and put in cookie sheet. Crush/crumble cereal and place over bottom crust. Cover with apple mixture. Make second crust with remaining dough. Place over top. Beat egg whites until frothy and put on top of crust.

Bake at 400°F until apples are done (about 1/2 hour). Brush with powdered sugar and water frosting (thin consistency) while still hot.

I first made this recipe back in college circa 1978. Two friends raved about "Apple Cuts". I wrote the recipe on an old-time recipe card, and still have it to this day. Over 40 years later, my family, kids, and grand kids love it. I was so surprised to see this recipe, identical down to the Corn Flakes, on the internet. I thought that my two friends had made up Apple Cuts, and think of them fondly every time that I make them. Thank you Lori & Coral for Apple Cuts!
