APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
Pastry for 2 (9 inch) pie crusts 6 med. apples (McIntosh best) INSIDE APPLE CAVITY: 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tbsp. butter SYRUP: 1 c. sugar 2 c. water 3 tbsp. butter 1/4 tsp. cinnamon Heat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out pastry a little less than 1/8 inch thick, and cut into 7 inch squares. Pair and core an apple for each dumpling. Boil four syrup ingredients together for three minutes. Place apple on each square of pastry. Fill cavities of apples with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Dot each apple with butter. Bring opposite points of pastry up over the apple. Overlap, moisten and seal pastry. Lift carefully and place a little apart in baking dish. Pour hot syrup around dumplings. Bake immediately 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown. Upon removal from oven, spoon syrup over dumplings. Serve warm, plain or with milk. |
