APPLE DUMPLINGS DOUGH 
3 c. flour
1 1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vinegar
1 egg
3-6 tbsp. water

Mix first 3 ingredients to a mealy consistency. Add vinegar and egg. By hand, cut in water to desired consistency. Portion into 6 to 8 even balls.

Mix 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Roll a dough ball to a 6 to 8 inch diameter. Place a cored (peeled if desired) Rome apple in center of apple and add sugar mixture. Add 1 tablespoon to hole in apple. Fold dough around each apple, sealing each edge with water. Place in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
