OLD FASHION TEA CAKES 
1 c. shortening (part butter)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt (or less if butter is used)
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Combine flour, cream of tartar and salt. Sift together and add to creamed mixture. Chill. Roll on floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, until light brown.
