A MAN COOKED MEAL 
Melt 2 tablespoons shortening in large skillet. Add 1/3 cup chopped celery, 1/3 cup chopped green peppers, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1 clove garlic, finely chopped and 1 1/2 pounds ground beef; brown well.

Stir in 1 cup cooked rice (or 2 medium potatoes, boiled and sliced), 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Simmer all these ingredients while mixing.

TOPPING:

1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. yellow cornmeal

Sift together above ingredients. Combine: 1/4 c. melted shortening 2 eggs, well beaten

Add all at once to dry ingredients. Stir well. Spread meat mixture into 9"x13" pan and cover with topping. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown.
