MOLASSES CAKE BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. light molasses
1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. instant coffee powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg; beat well. Mix in molasses and 1/2 cup water. Sift together remaining ingredients. Stir into creamed mixture. Pour into greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. While warm, frost with confectioners' icing. Cool; cut into 24 squares.
