CHOCOLATE CHIP BARS 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tbsp. cold water & 1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. brown sugar
3 egg whites
1 c. ground salted peanuts

Cream shortening. Add sugars (1/2 cups) gradually. Beat until fluffy. Blend in egg yolks. Mix water and vanilla and add to sugar mixture alternately with sifted flour, salt and soda. Spread dough on greased, deep cookie sheet. Beat egg whites stiff and mix in the 1 cup of brown sugar. Spread over top the chocolate chips. Top with salted nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and cut.
