FRANCES' ORANGE-RAISIN-NUT CAKE 
1 c. raisins (optional)
1 c. nuts (optional)
1/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour, plain
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. brown sugar
Juice of 2 oranges
1 orange rind, ground (optional)

Cream butter, adding sugar slowly until mixed well. Sift together dry ingredients. Add eggs to butter-sugar mixture, beating well. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Add raisins and nuts, if used, dredged in a small amount of the flour. Add ground orange rind if used. Bake in a 300 degree oven in a tube pan until brown.

While cake is baking combine brown sugar and orange juice. When cake is done, pour mixture over hot cake in pan. Some of the juice mixture may be poured over the cake after being removed from pan.
