NANNIE'S SPICED PICKLES 
Small whole cucumbers
Hot whole peppers, red or green
Cloves of garlic
Pickling spices, mixed
2 c. salt, plain NOT iodized
1 gallon white vinegar
4 c. granulated sugar

Wash and sterilize quart jars. Wash and dry small whole cucumbers. Pack cucumbers as tight as possible in jars. Into each jar put 1 clove garlic, hot peppers, and 1 1/2 teaspoon pickling spice.

Combine 1 gallon white vinegar and 2 cups salt with 4 cups sugar. Stir mixture until completely dissolved. (Mixture keeps indefinitely.) Fill each readied jar with liquid.

To seal, dip lids in boiling water before closing. Tighten lids to seal. Shake occasionally. Pickles will be ready in six weeks.
