BEEF STEW 
1 lb. beef stew meat or roast, cut into small wedges
1 tbsp. shortening
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 c. sliced carrots
2 c. potatoes, cut into wedges
1 1/2 to 2 qts. water
1/2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Salt
Pepper
1 1/2 to 2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. Kitchen Bouquet

Brown meat and onions in shortening. Add carrots and potatoes. Add water, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally, approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Add Kitchen Bouquet. Mix cornstarch in small glass of water until dissolved, pour into beef stew and cook until thickened as desired.

Goes well with cornbread.
