A GOOD CAKE 
3 blocks butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 1/4 c. plain flour
3/4 c. self-rising flour
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time. Add milk and then flour and vanilla. Bake in 3 (9 inch) layer cake pans or 9 x 13 inch. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees or until cake is done.

CREAMY MILK CHOCOLATE ICING:

1/4 c. melted Crisco
1/3 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar

Combine melted Crisco, cocoa, and salt, then add milk and vanilla. Mix in sugar in three parts. Mix until smooth and creamy. Add more sugar to thicken or milk to thin, if needed, for good spreading consistency.
