PLAIN ICE BOX COOKIES 
2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. cake flour

Cream butter well; add sugar. Gradually add egg and blend thoroughly. Add flour gradually beating well after each addition. Add extract while adding the last of the flour. Form into rolls. Store in refrigerator until hard enough to slice and bake on ungreased pan in moderate oven 375 degrees.
