COLONIAL OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. light brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. rolled oats
Raisins, nuts or peanuts

Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually. Add well beaten eggs and vanilla. Sift flour and baking soda. Add to mixture. Add oats, nuts or raisins (1 cup) and mix well. Shape into balls and flatten.

Bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
