FRESH APPLE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. lemon peel
2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 c. fresh apples, chopped fine
1 c. nut meats, chopped

Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs, beating lightly. Add lemon peel. Add sifted flour, salt, soda and baking powder, alternating with milk. Fold in chopped apples and nuts. Bake in 9x13 cake pan (greased and floured lightly). Bake at about 325 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until brown.
