CRISP AND CHEWIES (COOKIES) 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. soft butter or shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. dark molasses
3/4 c. quick oats

Sift flour, soda, salt, spices and sugar into a bowl. Cream shortening or butter, egg and molasses. Mix the dry ingredients with the creamed. Stir in oats. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Take them out when still slightly soft. Cool on counter off of pans. Don't overcook! Makes 2-3 dozen.
