BREAD AND BUTTER PUDDING | |
8 slices white bread, toasted dry in oven (golden brown Melba toast) 2 sticks butter, melted 4 eggs 2 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 4 c. milk Raisins Nutmeg Break toasted bread into bite size pieces and put into pan of melted butter. Stir in simmer slowly until all butter has soaked into the bread. Beat eggs, add sugar and blend well. Add vanilla and milk and stir until all ingredients are well mixed. Put buttered bread into baking dish and pour liquid mixture over it. Keep mashing the bread down into the milk for a few minutes so that is may soak up some of the milk. Sprinkle raisins and nutmeg over the top. Again push down into milk a few times. Bake at 400 degrees until firm. May be served hot or cold. VARIATION: Add 1 package melted chocolate chips or milk-egg mixture, substitute chopped nuts for raisins and nutmeg. |
