OATMEAL SPICE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. quick oats
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sifted white flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt

BROILED TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. flaked coconut
6 tbsp. butter
1 c. chopped walnuts
1/4 c. evaporated milk
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Pour boiling water over oats, mix well and let stand 20 minutes covered. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs. Stir in oat mixture. Add remaining dry ingredients. Bake in greased 9x13 inch pan or 9-inch springform pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

BROILED TOPPING: Mix together all ingredients. Spread over cooled cake and broil until brown. Watch closely. When cool, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
