BAKING POWDER BISCUITS 
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
3 tsp. Rumford baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening until mixture is like coarse cornmeal. Add milk, stirring it in quickly to form a soft dough. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface; knead about 1/2 minute. Roll 1/2 inch thick; cut with 2 inch cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in hot oven (425 degrees) about 12 minutes. Serve hot!!

Variations: Drop biscuits. Increase milk to 1 cup, less 2 tablespoons. Drop batter by tablespoons onto a slightly greased baking sheet. Bake as directed above for biscuits. Fill with jelly or cheese or leave plain.
