BAKING POWDER BISCUITS | |
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour 3 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt 4 tbsp. shortening 2/3 c. milk 1. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. 2. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture looks like coarse corn meal. 3. Add milk gradually, stirring lightly, to make a soft dough. 4. Place dough on lightly floured board, knead gently 5-10 times and roll lightly, until 1/2 inch thick. 5. Cut dough with biscuit cutter which has been dipped in flour. 6. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet. 7. Bake in very hot oven (450 degrees) for 12-15 minutes, or until brown. 8. Serve hot with butter, jelly, preserves or syrup as desired. |
