BANANA BREAD 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. white sugar
1 1/2 c. mashed bananas
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
Nuts (optional)

Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Blend in bananas, eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, soda and salt together. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Pour into pans or empty soup cans (for dainty round breads). Oven: 325 degrees. Bake: 1 hour and 15 minutes for loaf; about 45 minutes for soup cans. Test with toothpick.
