1/2 lb. butter 2 1/2 c. flour 1 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 sm. cake yeast or 1/2 pkg. dry yeast 2 beaten egg yolks 1/2 c. milk 8 to 10 apples 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 6 to 7 tbsp. flour Crumble butter, 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, yeast and salt as for pie crust. Add egg yolks and milk. Mix well until blended. Roll 2/3 dough to fit sides and bottom of jelly roll pan. Slice apples over dough. Sprinkle with 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 6 to 7 tablespoons of flour. Dot with flour. Cover with remaining dough and pinch doughs together. Cut slits in the top. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Frost with glaze of powdered sugar and water. 12 to 15 squares. |
