SHORTBREAD 
1 lb. butter
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
5 c. flour
1/2 c. corn starch

Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg, then flour and corn starch.

Knead with hands and put into cookie sheet with edge. Pat down smooth, prick with fork. Bake for 1 hour at 300 degrees (until golden). Sprinkle with sugar. Cut into fingers immediately. Cool on rack.
