EGGLESS BUTTERLESS MILKLESS CAKE 
Boil together 3 minutes:

1 c. water
1/3 c. vegetable shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. seeded raisins
1/4 tsp. grated nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves

When thoroughly cold, add:

Pinch of salt
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Level tsp. baking soda, dissolved in little warm water
1 c. chopped nuts

Bake in slow oven 325 to 350 degrees for one hour. Used during World War II.
