SOURDOUGH BREAD | |
1 c. milk (scalded) 1/4 c. shortening 2 tbsp. sugar 2 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water 1 c. sourdough starter 1 egg 1 tbsp. salt 5 to 6 c. flour (plain) Combine scalded milk, shortening, and sugar. Mix until sugar dissolves. Cool to lukewarm dissolve yeast with 1/4 cup water, let stand 5 minutes. Add mixture starter, egg, salt and 3 cups flour. Beat with electric mixer until smooth. Stir in enough flour to make soft dough, knead until smooth and elastic (8 to 10 minutes). Turn over in a well greased bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled. Punch down divide into 2 loaves. Cover, let rise until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 40 minutes. |
