1/2 c. butter 1 1/4 c. sugar 1 egg, beaten (save a little to brush on) 1/4 c. molasses 3 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda Scant 3 oz. water 1 tsp. each cinnamon, cloves, ginger 1 c. raisins Cream butter and sugar; add egg, molasses and water. Combine dry ingredients and add, mixing well. Add raisins. (1 cup walnuts may be added, optional.) Divide into 4 equal parts. With palms of hands, roll each section into a long roll and place lengthwise on two cookie sheets only 2 rolls on each sheet. Grease cookie sheets. Leave space between rolls. Flatten with palms of hands. Brush with remaining beaten egg. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 14 minutes. Cool in pan and cut while warm. Note: They freeze very well. |
