VERNA'S DATE DELIGHT 
12 cream filled chocolate cookies
1 c. chopped dates, I snip them up with scissors
3/4 c. water
1 tsp. salt
2 c. sm. or 16 lg. marshmallows
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. heavy cream or whipped topping
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Crush cookies between 2 sheets of waxed paper. Reserve 1/4 cup. Spread remaining cookie crumbs in a buttered 7 x 11 x 1 1/2 inch pan. Combine dates, water and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover pan and simmer 3 or 4 minutes. Remove from heat, add marshmallows and stir until melted. Cool. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Spread over cookie crumbs in pan.

Prepare whipped cream or Dream Whip and swirl over date filling. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Top with walnut halves or candied cherries. Chill overnight. Cut in squares to serve.
