DATE CRUMBLES 
1 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. rolled oats
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream tartar
1 stick softened butter

FILLING:

1 c. cut-up dates
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix dry ingredients and butter. Work with hands into crumbs. Pack half of mixture into bottom of 8 x 11 baking pan.

Boil ingredients for filling together until able to spread. Put on top of first layer of crumbs. Then spread on the rest of the crumb mixture. Bake at about 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees.
