DATE AND NUT FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. Crisco
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
4 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sour milk

FILLING:

7 1/2 oz. pkg. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. walnuts

Filling: Grind dates and nuts. Add sugar and water to make a smooth paste. Let cool.

Cream shortening. Add sugar, blend in eggs. Sift flour, cinnamon, soda and salt. Chill dough for 2 hours. Divide in 2 parts. Roll out each piece to 1/3 inch thick. Spread filling on dough and roll up like a jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper and chill overnight. Slice and bake for 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees.
