1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. water (110 degrees) 3/4 scalded milk 6 tbsp. sugar 2 tbsp. shortening 1 tsp. salt 1 egg, beaten 3 c. sifted flour Soften yeast in water. Combine scalded milk, sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast and egg to milk mixture. Stir in flour. Mix to a smooth dough. Let dough rise until double in bulk, about 1 1/2 hours. Roll on floured board to a 12 inch square. Cut into 24 strips, 2 x 3 inches. Fry in hot deep fat (350 degrees) about 3 minutes, turning once. Serve warm with butter and honey. |
