HOT WATER CORN BREAD
3 - 4 c. white corn meal
Boiling water
Salt
Crisco shortening

Boil water and add enough to the corn meal (already salted to taste) to make patties which stick together, approximately the size of a tablespoon. Drop patties into hot skillet filled with melted shortening. Turn over several times until brown on both sides. Serve hot with butter. Particularly tasty when served with fresh black eyed peas and other fresh vegetables in the summer months. In the winter, serve with chili and homemade soups.
