GERMAN FRESH APPLE BREAD 
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. peeled, chopped apples
1 1/2 tbsp. evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped walnuts

TOPPING:

1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. sugar

Sift together cinnamon, flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs and mix well. Stir in apples, milk and vanilla, mixing well. Beat in sifted ingredients, then mix in nuts, and pour into greased 9"x5" bread pan (sprinkle flour over bottom of pan).

Mix the remaining 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon with the tablespoon of sugar and sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Do not double recipe!
