SUGAR COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt

Cream shortening; gradually add sugar beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Divide in half; wrap in wax paper. Chill 1 hour. Wrap in wax paper. Chill 1 hour.

Roll 1/2 of dough 10 1/4 inch thickness on lightly floured surface; keep remaining dough cold. Cut dough with cookie cutters. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.

DECORATOR FROSTING FOR SUGAR COOKIES
1/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. butter
1 (16 oz.) powdered sugar (sifted)
1/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Food coloring (optional)

Cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat until well blended. Add milk and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Stir in food coloring. Smooth icing over cooled cookies.
