SPICY HOT PINTO BEANS 
1 lb. pinto beans

Pick over, wash, cover with water and soak overnight. When ready to cook, drain. Add:

2 qts. water
1/4 lb. salt pork or bacon
2 cloves garlic, chopped

Bring to a boil and simmer, covered for 30 minutes.

Stir in:

3 Jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped
1 onion, chopped and 3 green onions
2 med. tomatoes, peeled and chopped
1 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. brown sugar

Bring back to a boil, cover and simmer 30 minutes or until beans are tender and liquid is thickened slightly. This is better made ahead to allow flavors to develop. Great with barbeque.
