CRACKLE TOP COOKIES 
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 2/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/3 c. milk
2/3 c. chopped nuts; optional
Confectioners sugar

Sift flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Cream shortening with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla, add chocolate. Add flour mixture alternately with milk. Stir in nuts. Chill until firm 2-3 hours. Shape into 1 inch balls, roll in powdered sugar. Bake on greased sheets. Cool on racks. Makes 5 dozen. Oven temperature: 350 degrees. Time: 20 minutes.
