PRETZELS 
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2/3 c. milk
1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Coarse salt
1 egg

In medium saucepan mix with fork flour, milk, butter, sugar and salt (cheese if desired). Gently smooth the dough into a ball (on floured board) and knead 10 times.

Roll 1/2 of dough into a 12x8 inch rectangle. Make and cut rectangle lengthwise into eight 1-inch strips. Make each strip narrower by folding in half lengthwise. Pinch edges to seal. Twist each strip into a pretzel shape and place (pinched side down) on a cookie sheet.

Beat egg in a small bowl with fork. Brush each pretzel with some beaten egg and sprinkle lightly with coarse salt. Bake at 400 degrees on greased cookie sheet for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Repeat with second half of dough.
