SHIPWRECK STEW 
2 tbsp. oil or shortening
3/4 c. sliced onions
3 c. diced potatoes
1 lb. ground beef
1/4 c. uncooked rice
1 c. sliced celery
2 c. cooked kidney beans
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. chili powder and Worcestershire sauce
1 c. tomato sauce

In heavy pan melt shortening--arrange layer of onion in bottom, next layer of potatoes, then ground beef, then a layer of uncooked rice and a layer of celery and kidney beans.

Combine seasonings together and add to tomato sauce and pour over stew mixture. Cover tightly. Simmer slowly 2 hours over low heat without stirring or until meat and vegetables are tender, adding more water as necessary. (This may be cooked in oven.) Serves 6.
