APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 heaping tbsp. shortening
Milk
1 med. diced apple

Work shortening into dry ingredients; add milk to make soft dough; add apple. Bake in hot oven. Makes 6 dumplings.

SAUCE:

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. flour
Cold water
1 c. hot water
Sm. piece butter
Nutmeg & vanilla

Cook sugar, hot water, flour, moistened with cold water until thick, or about 5 minutes. Add butter, nutmeg and vanilla after removing from fire.
