DATE ROLL 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. plain flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Chill for 30 minutes.

FILLING:

8 oz. pitted dates
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/3 c. water
1/4 c. sugar
Dash of salt

Chop dates; add sugar, water and salt. Cook over low heat for 5 to 8 minutes. Cover and let cool. Add nuts. Take dough and roll oblong. Spread cooled filling on dough. Roll up and slice in half. Makes 2 rolls. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes on ungreased cook sheet.
