BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
12 cucumbers
5 med. onions
1/2 c. salt
2 c. water
2 c. vinegar
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed

Wash vegetables; cut cucumber in 1/2" slices without paring. Peel onions, cut in 1/4" slices. Place layers in bowl with salt; let stand 3 hours; drain and rinse well with cold water. Mix water, sugar, mustard and celery seed in large kettle. Boil until sugar is dissolved. Add cucumber and onion and boil 5 minutes. Pour in hot, sterile jars and seal immediately. Makes 3 quarts.
