APPLE CAKE | |
2 c. diced, peeled apples 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. chopped nuts Mix sugar with apples and let stand until sugar is dissolved. Add egg and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and stir into apple mixture. Add nuts. Pour into 8-inch square baking pan and bake in 375°F oven about 35 to 40 minutes or until done. Immediately cover with Hot Sauce. Hot Sauce: 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed 1/2 c. granulated sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1 c. water 1/4 c. butter 1 tsp. vanilla Cook sugars, flour and water together until clear. Add butter and vanilla; stir until butter melts. Pour sauce over cake while both are hot. Note: You can reheat, covered, in a 300°F oven, for about 15 minutes. |
