1 oz. red food coloring
3 tbsp. chocolate Nestle's Quik
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

In a small bowl mix the food coloring and Nestle's Quik. Let stand and mix in large bowl the Crisco, sugar and eggs. Add first mixture and mix well, then add and mix the buttermilk, flour and vanilla. Then add by hand the baking soda and vinegar.

ICING:

1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
3 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. milk

Mix the butter and Crisco well. Cook together flour and milk then cool. Add butter and Crisco; mix well and then add powdered sugar to desired thickness.

(To make buttermilk, mix 1 teaspoons vinegar to 1 cup milk.)
