OATMEAL COOKIES 
3/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. quick oats, uncooked

Mix thoroughly the shortening, sugar, egg, water and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add to shortening mixture. Blend in oats. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake in moderate oven at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
