1/2 c. shortening, softened 1 c. sugar 1 egg 1 egg yolk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/4 c. self-rising flour, sifted 1 egg white 1 c. brown sugar, packed 1/2 c. nuts, chopped Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in flour. Mix thoroughly. Spread in greased oblong pan, 13 x 9 1/2 x 2 inches. Beat egg white until foamy. Gradually beat in brown sugar and continue beating until stiff and glossy. Fold in nuts. Spread meringue over mixture in pan. Bake about 25 minutes. Cut while warm into 2 inch squares. Makes 24. |
