FRENCH APPLE DESSERT | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 c. brown sugar 1 c. white sugar 2 c. flour 1 tbsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 can apple (or cherry) pie filling Cream shortening and the sugars. Sift in flour and cinnamon and blend. Set aside one cup of this mixture for topping. Then dissolve the soda in buttermilk and add to the mixture. Add the eggs, salt, and vanilla and mix thoroughly. Pour in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Spoon the prepared apple or cherry pie filling on top. Spread lightly; then sprinkle the reserved topping over this. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. May be served with whipped cream or ice cream. |
