SAUERBRATEN HAMBURGERS 
Mix together:

1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind
1/3 c. milk
1/2 c. bread crumbs

Form into patties and fry in 1 tablespoon butter. Discard pan drippings. Mix together and put into pan with burgers:

1 c. gravy
2 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 bay leaf

Simmer over low heat for 1/2 hour. Serve with buttered noodles, croutons and red cabbage. This becomes a quick, inexpensive German dish.
