2/3 c. sugar 4 tsp. cinnamon 6 (1/2 inch thick) slices of bread 1 stick (1/2 c.) unsalted butter, melted in a saucepan (Use homemade-type white bread, crusts removed and each slice cut into 4 strips). In a wide shallow bowl stir together the sugar and the cinnamon. Working with 1 strip of bread at a time, turn the strips quickly in the butter, coating them on all sides and letting any excess drip off, and turn them quickly in the cinnamon sugar, coating them on all sides. Bake the strips in a lightly buttered jelly-roll pan in the upper third of a preheated 375 degree oven for 10 minutes, turn them, and bake them for 10 minutes more. Transfer the toasts with tongs to a serving plate and serve them warm. Makes 24 cinnamon toasts. Makes 24. |
