“TROPICAL ORANGE COOKIES” IS IN:

TROPICAL ORANGE COOKIES 
1/2 cup shortening or butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup orange juice
grated rind of 1 orange
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup moist shredded coconut flakes
additional sugar, for sprinkling

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add orange juice and rind and blend.

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together, add to creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly.

Chill dough in refrigerator.

Roll on floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Brush tops lightly with water, sprinkle with coconut flakes, then with granulated sugar.

Bake in moderate oven (375°F) for 10 to 12 minutes.

Makes 4 dozen cookies.
