MOTHER'S CHRISTMAS CAKE 
1 c. Crisco shortening
2 c. brown sugar, packed
4 eggs, well beaten
3 c. cake flour (sifted then measure)
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 pt. fig preserves

Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with water. Coat raisins in a little flour then add with fig preserves and blend into mixture. Bake in greased and floured cake pan, 300 degrees F., 2 hours.
