CHERRY CRUMB CAKE 
1 c. sugar
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 can cherry pie filling

Mix sugar and flour, sifted with baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter and the egg; mix to make crumbs.

Place half of the crumb mixture in the bottom of a greased pan (13 x 9 x 2 inches). Pour over it, distributing evenly, the cherries. Top with remaining crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve with whip cream, ice cream or plain.

Variations: Use peach, blueberry or other filling instead. Add a touch of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon to the top crumbs.
