PECAN WHEAT GEMS 
2 1/4 c. flour (or 1 c. whole wheat flour)
1/2 rounded tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. ground pecans
1/3 c. pecan pieces
1 lb. semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips
2/3 c. wheat germ
Whole pecans

Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Cream butter and sugars; add eggs and vanilla. Beat thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients. Fold in ground pecans and pecan pieces, wheat germ, chocolate cut in pieces or chocolate chips.

Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Place whole pecan on top of each cookie. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) about 10 minutes. Makes 50-75 cookies. Best if kept in covered tin.
